Fayette County records no objection to Tyrone annexation notice and will sponsor Tyrone's ARC TIP application

Fayette County commissioners on Feb. 12 reviewed an annexation notification from the Town of Tyrone for Parcel No. 0739 023, a 4.672‑acre parcel fronting Briarwood Road and Palmetto Road. Planning and Zoning Director Debbie Bell said the town proposes rezoning the parcel to R‑12, which Bell said is analogous to the county's own R‑20 zoning and aligns with Fayette County’s Future Land Use Plan.
County Attorney Dennis Davenport explained that under state law the county’s role is to provide an objection or no objection and that the county does not conduct a public hearing on annexation notifications. The board recorded a 4‑0‑1 vote on the matter — Vice Chairman Edward Gibbons moved approval and Commissioner Charles W. Oddo seconded; Commissioner Charles D. Rousseau abstained.
Separately, Public Works Director Phil Mallon requested that Fayette County serve as the official project sponsor for the Town of Tyrone’s application to the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) 2026 solicitation for the Senoia Road Corridor Streetscape and Mobility LCI Implementation Project. Mallon said Tyrone’s LAP certification would not be complete before ARC’s deadlines and that Fayette County, as a LAP‑certified agency, could act as sponsor without committing county funds. The board approved the sponsorship unanimously.
Both actions were taken by unanimous or near‑unanimous votes and reflect coordination between Fayette County and the Town of Tyrone on land use and regional transportation funding steps.
