Fayette County accepts up to $4.04M GDOT grant for SR 85/SR 279/Corinth Road right-of-way; approves ROW services contract

The Board unanimously accepted a GDOT grant to reimburse up to $4,040,000 in right-of-way acquisition costs for the SR 85/SR 279/Corinth Road project and approved a not-to-exceed $364,230 task order with Practical Design Partners for ROW acquisition services; the Board also approved an IGA with the Town of Brooks to repair a culvert.
Fayette County commissioners voted unanimously on Feb. 26 to accept a Georgia Department of Transportation grant that will reimburse local right-of-way acquisition costs up to $4,040,000 for the SR 85/SR 279/Corinth Road improvement project (GDOT PI 0017813).
Public Works Director Phil Mallon told the Board the contract with GDOT and acceptance of the grant will enable the county to proceed with right-of-way purchases for the project. The Board also approved Contract #1981-Q Task Order 8, a not-to-exceed $364,230 agreement with Practical Design Partners (PDP) for right-of-way acquisition services and related activities for the same project.
Commissioner Charles D. Rousseau moved to approve the GDOT contract and grant acceptance; Vice Chairman Edward Gibbons seconded and the motion passed 5-0. Commissioner Rousseau also moved to approve the PDP task order; that motion likewise passed 5-0.
Separately, the Board approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Town of Brooks under which Brooks will cover materials to repair a 72-inch corrugated metal pipe while Fayette County provides labor and equipment. Chairman Lee Hearn said completing the work via an IGA freed SPLOST funds for other projects; the Board approved the IGA 5-0.
"This was a very small project with the Town of Brooks," Hearn said, noting the IGA preserves town SPLOST funds for other uses.
The GDOT grant and the PDP contract are intended to move right-of-way acquisition forward; the county will manage acquisitions and coordinate with GDOT on project schedule and reimbursements.
