Committee approves VOCA award for victims week and continued Accurint access for prosecutors

Summary
The committee approved a $4,996.75 VOCA subaward to fund National Crime Victims Rights Week outreach and a $41,009.85 contract amendment to continue LexisNexis Accurint access through Dec. 31, 2026; staff said LexisNexis contract timing may require a future request.
The committee approved two items to support victim outreach and prosecutors’ investigative research tools.
Tony Guerrero, chief of legislation, grants and community relations for the Wayne County prosecutor, described a $4,996.75 VOCA subaward with no county match to fund National Crime Victims Rights Week community awareness activities, including media and survivor events. Guerrero told commissioners the item required exigent approval earlier from Chair Bell because federal paperwork was delayed.
Guerrero also explained a retroactive amendment to a cooperative agreement that continues the prosecutor office’s access to the LexisNexis Accurint portal for investigative research. The amendment covers $41,009.85 and extends Accurint access only through Dec. 31, 2026; Guerrero said staff will seek an additional extension from LexisNexis and return with another request if the vendor extends its statewide arrangement.
Commissioners asked about turnout and media coverage for recent awareness events; prosecutor Kim Worthy reported about 30 attendees at a recent survivor walk and said the program draws stakeholders across the county. The committee voted to approve both items together by voice vote.
What happens next: Staff will proceed with the grant spending for victims‑week activities under the VOCA award, and the prosecutor’s office will return to seek further LexisNexis contract extensions if the vendor updates its statewide arrangement.
