Village officials told the Board of Trustees on June 16 that the village’s recent application for water-system funding did not score high enough to receive awards and that staff will pursue alternate funding streams and steps to improve the village’s score next year.
Village Engineer Tim Pruett told trustees the village was "too far down" on the intended funding list; staff discussed other funding options and ways to strengthen the application for the next cycle. Public Works Director John Tolan reported a water main break last week on Urbanna Drive near the Freeburg Care Center and said crews completed immediate repairs. The board was also told state inspections took place: an IEPA water-system inspection in late April and a May 30 wastewater inspection. While IEPA was on site it performed a final inspection of the new wastewater plant.
Village Administrator Matt Trout said staff are preparing the Consumer Confidence Report for publication in the Freeburg Tribune. Trout also reported an enforcement matter referred by a resident to the police involving alleged water-meter tampering; the matter may lead to a theft-of-service citation. The minutes note prior electric-meter tampering allegations involving the same resident.
Trustees received the updates during the Trash/Water/Sewer Committee report and no formal motions or funding approvals were made at the June 16 meeting. The village did not provide dollar figures for the failed funding application in the minutes.
