O'Brien said the change clarifies the approval path for staff or outside researchers seeking to conduct studies in district schools.
On the career‑technical education (IDAA) policy, O'Brien proposed an inclusivity paragraph to make clear enrollment is open based on program availability, staffing and student interest, and to state that "English language learners and students receiving special education services will be fully supported and will not encounter barriers to enrollment or participation in any CTE program." Board members discussed whether to use present‑tense or future‑tense wording and whether to replace "shall" with "will" to keep policy voice consistent; members also suggested minor edits for capitalization and sentence flow.
O'Brien also reviewed administrative‑procedure updates (virtual/online courses, adult education, auto‑shop procedures and CTE alignment to Michigan standards). Board members made wording, punctuation and structural suggestions and asked staff to return with revised language for first reading or placement on future consent or regular agendas as appropriate.
