Beaver Area, Pa. — The Beaver Area School District Board of Directors on Aug. 26 unanimously approved a broad set of routine personnel actions, two small contracts for facilities work and modest pay adjustments ahead of the 2013–2014 school year.
The board approved the promotion of Carrie Rowe to assistant superintendent, effective Sept. 1, 2013 through June 30, 2017, at a starting salary of $103,000 pro‑rated for the 2013–2014 year. The board also approved a $3,800 contract with Daniel Baker Associates to study water flow and estimate repairs to the middle–high school causeway and a contract with Architectural Innovations not to exceed $1,560 for modifications to iPad service/training rooms.
Directors approved pay adjustments for support staff: a $0.25 hourly increase for special education teaching assistants, subject to a $12.00/hour cap, and a $0.20 hourly increase for cafeteria monitors for 2013–2014. The board approved added time for cafeteria worker Tammy Cochran (increasing her scheduled shift from 6.25 to 6.5 hours per day with benefits) and accepted that Pam Grimm declined a previously offered promotion, leaving her hourly rate reduced from an awarded $11.70 to $10.70 per the board action.
The meeting included approvals for a long list of personnel hires and assignments for the coming year. The board also approved volunteers and the fall coaching roster, authorized an overnight mock trial field trip for 10 students and two adults to the University of Pennsylvania (Jan. 17–19, 2014) with a $380 entrance fee plus transportation and one substitute teacher charged to the district, and approved Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit emergency permit substitute teachers for 2013–2014. Administrative reports were filed at the Business Office and there were no visitor comments recorded.
The board set its next meetings for a Sept. 9 work session and a Sept. 16 regular session and adjourned at 8:40 P.M.
