One council member opposed the immediate purchase, saying the city should consider swapping vehicles between departments or delaying the spend while other capital needs (sewer work, lift-station completion) remain open. "I personally don't think this is a responsible decision," one councilor said, noting concerns about competing project needs and vehicle inventory.
City staff told the council the truck under consideration is a 2021 model with roughly 15,000 miles. A council member asked whether interdepartmental trades were feasible; staff indicated equipment is city-owned and that insurance and logistics could be examined.
Councilmember George moved to refer the purchase back to committee so members could gather additional information and assess whether a trade or delay was preferable; the motion was seconded and passed on roll call. Council directed the finance committee to revisit the purchase with cost comparisons and inventory details.
