Senator's outreach officer briefs Clawson council on wildfire and public-lands bills

Ron Dunn, outreach officer for Senator Kennedy's office, visited the Clawson Town Council to brief members on federal measures affecting public lands and wildfire response.
Dunn said the Fix Our Forests Act is advancing in Congress and that staff have filed a related patch called the Torch Act to address problems firefighters encountered last year when jurisdictional boundaries prevented crews from crossing to chase large fires. "This addresses that," he said, explaining the patch is intended to allow invited crews to respond across jurisdictional lines during substantial incidents. He also described Congressional Review Act activity aimed at reversing a set of federal rules for the Staircase Escalante area and said congressional offices are monitoring the situation.
Dunn identified his portfolio as outreach for the southeast counties and listed public lands, natural resources, energy and tribal affairs among his specialties. He emphasized that, despite earlier decisions affecting the district, the senator's office "is still here and we're still working." The briefing was informational; the council took no formal action at the meeting.
