Marion promotes two firefighters and hires Hunter Hodge to fill vacancy

The Marion City Council approved a slate of personnel moves in the fire department to account for the retirement of Captain Mike Boyd. The council approved promoting Sean Walsh to captain and Greg Robinson to lieutenant, and it approved the merit board’s recommendation to hire Hunter Hodge as a firefighter.
Chief (speaker S8) spoke at length about the promoted personnel and the new hire. "Sean was hired 07/01/2003," the chief said of Walsh and noted Walsh’s long service, role as training officer and leadership. The chief also highlighted Greg Robinson’s 15 years with the department, his work on the tech rescue and dive teams and his role in developing a fire safety education program for third graders.
The council moved and seconded the promotions and approved them by roll call. The hire of Hunter Hodge was moved and seconded separately; Chief S8 described Hodge as a 2020 graduate of Crab Orchard High School, age 23, with a bachelor's degree in fire, arson and explosive investigation from Eastern Kentucky University and prior experience as a fire investigator with Remkus Consulting Group.
Photos and brief family recognition followed the hire vote. The council paused the meeting briefly to allow family members to take pictures with the promoted and newly hired staff.
All promotions and the hire were approved by roll call with those present voting in favor and Commissioner Stecklen absent.
