Governors State University asks to use 90 Town Center Drive as student reunification location; village staff to review insurance and logistics

Chris Goodson, emergency management coordinator for Governors State University, asked the board to authorize an MOU allowing the university to use 90 Town Center Drive as a reunification location for its daycare during daytime hours in an emergency (for example, active shooter or an on‑campus incident requiring evacuation).
Goodson said the request is limited to daytime hours so that village staff would not be required to respond on weekends, and said the arrangement would allow the university to evacuate children from campus to a safe reunification site. Village staff said the site is used for rentals and events and that they will consult insurance brokers and legal counsel to determine whether additional coverage or written language is required. "I can definitely talk to our legal team," Goodson said, adding that Governors State would work with village staff on insurance requirements.
