Resident Michael Schnur told the council that a private‑equity firm recently bought Google Fiber and that the service is transitioning to a rebranded entity (he said "it's changing to G‑Fiber"). Schnur said customers may face higher prices and reduced service under the new ownership. Councilmember Chris Milbank and others said the council needed clarity on whether the contract protects the city if ownership or operating terms change.
Because of those unresolved questions, the council decided to table further consideration and seek additional information before taking formal action.
