County to seek insurance and confirm footprint for July 250th celebration; drone show contracted

Clerk of the Board Daniel Bancho said the county had formed an ad hoc committee and partnered with the Butterfly Festival 501(c)(3) to handle donations and vendor logistics. Bancho said the board set aside $100,000 for the community event; as of the meeting staff had spent about $24,000, which included approximately $40,000 allocated toward a contracted drone show and about $3,500 for commemorative lapel pins. He noted those figures exclude staff time.
Supervisor Kaiser, who is co-chair of the ad hoc committee, said the event footprint is being reduced from prior plans because CHP and other public-safety partners raised staffing and safety concerns. The board discussed vendor areas, cooling centers, parade logistics, volunteer support and use of community partners such as the Lions Club, Chamber and Rotary for traffic and crowd control.
Community partners asked the county to confirm it will provide event insurance and add an alcohol-liability endorsement if vendors will sell alcoholic beverages in an open-container area. County counsel and insurance staff said insurance is available but the premium depends on the final event components and footprint; staff will approach insurers once the footprint and event elements are finalized.
Supervisors said they expect a further update after an ad hoc committee meeting; no final commitments beyond the previously approved $100,000 allocation were changed at the March 10 session.
