Shane, representing the YMCA, presented the organization's summer sports program report and asked for continued support from the city. He said the program reached just under 500 youth across multiple sports — flag football, basketball, soccer, T-ball, softball and lacrosse — and that participation has increased year to year despite a slight dip this season attributed to a price increase.
Shane shared survey results showing 92% of parents rated staff quality as excellent and 85% said the program helped their family lead a healthier lifestyle. He said the YMCA offers financial assistance and has reduced some prices this year to make programs more attainable.
Board members asked about unique participants versus repeat participants; Shane estimated roughly 20% of registrants do more than one sport. Members also discussed venue choices (T-ball at Gustafsson vs. JC's Park), parking and plans to adapt as the city pursues redevelopment projects. Shane said the YMCA will consider moving some programs to Memorial Park or JC's Park where feasible, while noting parking at JC's Park will require careful planning.
Shane said the YMCA is exploring deeper partnerships and aims for sports to make up a larger share of the Y's revenue mix, from about 15% currently toward a target of 30% in the future. He thanked the board for the partnership and invited further questions.
