Brainerd City Park Board approves 2026 YMCA and Community Education agreements

Brainerd City — The Brainerd City Park Board approved revised 2026 agreements with the YMCA and Community Education (ISD 181) to oversee youth programming after staff and the city attorney reviewed updates to compensation, oversight, and insurance provisions.

Staff said the contract drafts include a redline and clear version and that the city attorney had signed off on the revisions. “A full schedule of field, facility usage shall be provided to the city as soon as reasonably possible. Any changes must be communicated at least two weeks before use of facility or field,” staff said, summarizing the scheduling requirement added to the redline contract.

Board members asked for clear expectations about registration levels and contingencies if programs face cancellation; staff noted the contracts require providing program information on request and that staff can follow up prior to events. One board member asked that, when presenters come before the board, staff should request registration numbers and backup plans in case low registration threatens a season.

The board moved and seconded to approve the 2026 contracts with the YMCA, ISD 181 and Brainerd City; the motion passed by voice vote. The board also asked staff to monitor registration numbers and to notify the board if programs are at risk of cancellation.
