The park board voted to support a revised agreement that removes Rotary Club responsibility for future solar-panel replacement at Rotary Park and places that responsibility with Brainerd Public Utilities (BPU), aligning Rotary Park with the city's other solar projects.
Staff told the board the Rotary Club requested removal of language that made the club responsible for replacing panels; the revised language assigns replacement and ongoing maintenance to BPU. "The Rotary Club requested a replacement of the solar panels not be on their responsibility. This verbiage was now removed, and now the responsibility will be on the Brainerd Public Utilities," staff said. BPU (referred to in the packet as VPU/BPU) passed the agreement earlier the same day.
Board members asked for clarity that BPU would be responsible for replacement in the contract language; staff and board agreed that BPU typically covers city-owned solar projects and that the revision mirrors that practice. The board voted to support the revised contract and will forward it to city council for final approval.
What's next: Staff will transmit the board recommendation and the revised contract to city council for final action.
