Community partner praises board's continued support for Communities in Schools

Christy Foldenauer addressed the board during the public comment period and thanked members for including Communities in Schools (CIS) in the FY27 budget.
"My name is Christy Foldenauer, and I wear several hats," Foldenauer said, identifying herself as a member of the board of directors for Communities in Schools in Chesterfield, a local business owner and a pastor. She told the board CIS places full-time site coordinators in schools to connect students to supports and said she has observed the program's impact over seven years.
Foldenauer provided program metrics: she said CIS is reaching students in 16 schools and serving more than 14,725 students; during the 24-25 school year CIS Chesterfield served 746 case-managed students, of whom she said 74 percent improved attendance, 78 percent improved behavior, 79 percent improved academics and social-emotional learning, 95 percent were promoted, 98 percent graduated and 99 percent remained in school for the year when CIS was present. "Students learn best when they feel supported, stable, and connected," she said.
Foldenauer urged continued support and expansion so CIS can place more site coordinators in additional schools and bring outside resources to Chesterfield students. The board did not take a separate vote on the comment but subsequently adopted the FY27 budget package presented by staff, which included funding for CIS as noted in the presentation.
