The city presented its 2026 resident scholarships, recognizing College Park High School seniors including second-place winners Sergio Alvarez and Chloe and first-place winner Zaya Kozorovitski; awards were presented at the April 22 council meeting.
The Shenandoah City Council honored the winners of the 2026 resident scholarship program during its April 22 meeting.
Balmar introduced judges from the city’s civic club and described the selection process, saying the program drew a record number of submissions (14) this year. Two applicants earned second-place awards and received $750 each; a first-place winner received the top scholarship award.
Balmar said one second-place recipient, Sergio Alvarez of College Park High School, could not attend; the council read a summary of his application. Chloe (a College Park High School senior) and Zaya Kozorovitski (the first-place winner) came forward to receive certificates. Balmar and council members praised the students’ community involvement and academic goals; Zaya said she plans to enter an emergency medicine track after high school.
Council and city staff invited the scholarship recipients to pose for photographs and thanked the civic club volunteers who judged the awards. No formal council action was required for the presentation.
