Sam Houston High renovation underway under San Antonio ISD Bond 2020, principal says

Dr. Nakisha Bibbs, principal of Sam Houston High School, said construction is actively underway on the campus and that students will soon be able to use a range of newly renovated facilities. "We are excited to share that construction is actively underway on our campus, and soon our students will be able to enjoy a variety of new and beautifully renovated spaces," Bibbs said.

The work is being carried out as part of San Antonio ISD's Bond 2020 initiative and covers athletic, arts and learning-space upgrades. Bibbs listed the athletic improvements as a new competition gym, a mat room and weight room, plus renovated training and locker rooms and an upgraded athletic concourse. "Thanks to the Bond 2020 project, our campus will feature a new competition gym along with a mat room and weight room," she said.

Bibbs said the arts program will also gain new and upgraded spaces, including a gallery area, a black box theater, a renovated auditorium and an expanded dance studio. "In addition, we're expanding opportunities for the arts with a new gallery area, a black box theater space, a renovated auditorium, and an expanded dance studio," Bibbs said.

Campus access and informal learning spaces are part of the renovation plan: the project includes a new main entrance, an updated concourse area and "innovative learning stairs designed to support collaboration and engagement," she said. Construction is expected to be completed in winter 2026, Bibbs added.

Bibbs thanked voters for approving Bond 2020, which she said made the renovations possible. The announcement did not include a detailed construction budget, contractor names, or a phased timeline beyond the projected winter 2026 completion date.
