The Geneva County Commission on Feb. 9 voted to sell a county-owned speculative industrial building and 6.72 acres to ISA Partners, LLC and accepted a State Seeds Grant to expand the county Industrial Park.
Chairman Toby Seay said the lease-purchase sale of the building is for $410,270.00 and the additional 6.72 acres is priced at $37,386.92, for a total purchase of $447,656.92. Commissioner Todd Brannon moved to adopt the resolution authorizing the sale and to allow Chairman Seay to execute closing documents; the motion passed 4-0. County officials said the sale is expected to close about a week after the resolution is received.
Seay also announced that Geneva County was awarded a State Seeds Grant of approximately $667,000 to acquire roughly 100 acres to add to the county Industrial Park. County Attorney Phil Eldridge told commissioners that before the county can transfer or expand Industrial Park boundaries a public hearing must be held and a formal resolution adopted; Eldridge said those steps will occur as the purchase moves toward closing.
Commissioner Weston Spivey additionally moved to appoint Samantha Barron to the Southeast Alabama Regional Planning and Development Board; that motion passed 4-0.
The combined actions are part of the county’s effort to attract industry and prepare shovel-ready land in Hartford and surrounding areas. Officials said proceeds from asset sales and grant awards would be managed through the county’s General Fund and related accounting procedures. Attorney Eldridge reiterated that proceeds from recent landfill negotiations also are expected to flow to the General Fund after closing.
No dates for the Industrial Park boundary hearing were set at the Feb. 9 meeting. Chairman Seay was authorized to execute deeds, affidavits, closing statements and other documents necessary to complete the building and land sale.
