Mayor Rick Walsh proclaimed March 2026 as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month for Pelham, Alabama, at the March 19 Pelham City Council meeting and invited representatives from the ARC of Shelby County to the dais for a photo and remarks.
Carol Lyons, director of development and community relations for the ARC of Shelby County, thanked the city and described the ARC’s local work: “We served 2,139 individuals and families throughout Shelby County,” she said, and noted the ARC operates local programs including early intervention and employment services. Lyons also introduced Shelby Cahill, an ARC program participant who has worked at the Pelham Library for about nine and a half years.
Mayor Walsh invited residents to a community kickoff event tied to the city’s America250 activities, and the council thanked ARC staff for their work. The proclamation urges individuals and organizations to reaffirm support for services, inclusion and awareness for people with developmental disabilities.
