Calhoun County proclaims Nov. 20 as Great American Smokeout Day

The Calhoun County Board of Commissioners on Nov. 20 adopted a proclamation declaring Nov. 20 the 33rd Annual Great American Smokeout Day and urged county residents to support smokers seeking cessation.
Commissioner Arnquist read the proclamation and Chairwoman Kate Segal presented it to Carol Meyer-Niedzwiecki, director of the Calhoun County Cancer Control Coalition. Meyer-Niedzwiecki encouraged community support for individuals trying to quit smoking.
Commissioners noted local businesses that had gone smoke-free, with Comr. Moore congratulating the Cancer Control Coalition on its social marketing campaign and noting that Arcadia Brewing had gone non-smoking without a government mandate; Comr. Bolger added that Lori’s Corner Café had also become smoke-free. The proclamation was adopted by voice vote.
