Holly Springs Tree Commission approves routine items and schedules Earth Day discussion for later in the year

HOLLY SPRINGS — The Holly Springs Tree Commission met April 14 to review the recent Arbor Day distribution, approve routine items and schedule future event planning.
Chair (S1) moved to place a discussion of the commission’s participation in Earth Day on a later agenda; members approved the motion by voice vote. “I move that we put it on that later later agenda,” the Chair said during discussion about an October–November planning slot.
The commission approved continuing a $25 gift card for its art-of-the-month recognition after a motion by Committee member (S2) and a second. Committee member (S2) moved that the program continue; Committee member (S3) seconded and the motion passed by voice vote.
The commission also selected 191 Wentworth Drive as the Yard of the Month for April 2026 and asked staff to invite the homeowner to the Holly Springs City Council meeting on May 4 for formal recognition. “Sabrina, would you please invite them to the next city council meeting so we can get that award?” the Chair asked; staff agreed to coordinate timing for photos and the award presentation.
Treasurer (S3) presented January and February balances: “We started with $38,953.37,” they said for January, noting $375 in withdrawals left an ending balance of $38,578.37; February began at $38,578.37, with $325 in withdrawals and an ending balance of $38,253.37. The commission moved to accept the treasurer’s report and approved it by voice vote.
On budgeting and projects, staff member Robert (S4) reported a landscaping project is in the queue and that the city arborist recently inspected the site and identified three species for planting. Robert said the site lacks irrigation and, given current drought conditions, planting will likely wait until fall; staff will obtain a list of trees from Bob Jones Nursery for the commission to review.
All formal actions taken at the meeting were passed by voice vote in the minutes; the record shows motions carried and items to return for future agenda consideration. The commission adjourned after the scheduled business was completed.
