Holly Springs council approves traffic study for Ash Street corridor

The Holly Springs City Council voted 3-0 on April 6 to approve a professional services agreement with Keckenwood Inc. to conduct a traffic study of the Ash Street corridor and related intersections.

Rob Logan, who presented the item, said the study will evaluate turning movements at Ash Street and the Ash Street Connector, Marietta Highway at Prominence Point Parkway, and Ash Street at Marietta Highway. "This study will also include an analysis of traffic crash data in the area as well as review of planned intersection improvements on Prominence Point Parkway that are planned by the city of Canton," Logan said.

Council members and staff said the city will use the study results to plan and design improvements on Ash Creek between Ash Creek Connector and Marietta Highway and to address prior concerns about guardrail placement and site distance. The motion to approve the agreement carried 3-0.

The contract amount recorded in the meeting packet and the discussion was stated in the transcript as "not to exceed $25,000 and $100." The council packet identifies Keckenwood/Keck enwood (spelling appears inconsistently in the record); the city listed the firm that conducted an earlier Highway 5 corridor study as the proposer and said it had met with the firm several weeks earlier to scope the work.

Next steps: staff will proceed with the traffic study under the approved agreement; the council did not set a separate timeline in the discussion.
