Albany honors police employees and receives APD recertification recognition

Chief Pursley presented the APD's annual awards: Citizen of the Year went to Cammy (Tammy) Thompson; Civilian of the Year was Fontasia Thurman; Commander in Chief recognition went to retired Lieutenant John Seagroves; and Officer of the Year went to Corporal Nakia Ellis. The chief praised recipients for community engagement and investigative work.
Ed Densmore of the Georgia Association Chiefs of Police told the commission the APD recently completed an on-site recertification review covering 141 standards across nine chapters and that the department was approved for the next certification cycle.
The mayor and commissioners thanked awardees and commended the department for the work.
