WIMBERLEY, Texas — The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board on April 8 discussed donor recognition concepts for the planned Martha Neese Playground and generally leaned toward low‑impact options such as engraved pavers rather than large mounted donor walls or additional freestanding signs.
Leanne Linham, a board member, said she and others had spoken with keep‑it‑local members and worried that the park already contains a lot of visual elements. “My opinion, and I have talked to some keepers, we have long thought the park is already full and more visual stuff would not be appropriate,” Linham said, supporting pavers that can be added over time and remain visually quiet.
Staff presented three options: a mounted donor wall on a building face, a band of engraved brick or pavers leading to the pavilion, or adding another freestanding sign with donor information near existing signage. Board discussion emphasized durability and maintainability; staff said a mounted option could be designed to be relocated if restroom configurations change in the future.
Rachel Buchanan noted the possibility of using hotel occupancy tax funds for public art or donor signage and asked staff to consider funding sources. Staff said they will return with paper options and mockups for the board to formally recommend and that pavers could be phased in over time to match donor levels.
No formal action was taken; staff will bring back design mockups and a recommendation at a future meeting.
