Summary
At its Aug. 10, 2021 workshop meeting, Chartiers Valley Superintendent Johannah Vanatta told the board the district will follow CDC mask recommendations for the 2021–22 school year and that masks are required on school buses under federal rules.
Superintendent Johannah Vanatta told the Chartiers Valley Board of School Directors on Aug. 10, 2021, that the district will "follow the mask recommendations made by the CDC" for the 2021–22 school year and expects students and staff to wear masks.
Vanatta also reminded the public that face coverings are required on school buses because of federal rules governing transportation. Her remarks came during the superintendent's report at a workshop/special action meeting in the district's Intermediate School Auditorium.
The board simultaneously approved revised 2021–22 student handbooks for the high school and middle school on the consent agenda; the minutes state the handbook language on COVID-19 guidance and the district safety plan will be amended to reflect updated guidance from the CDC and the state Secretary of Health. Those handbook revisions were approved as part of consent items 3.2–3.19, which passed by unanimous voice vote.
Regan Weldon, the district's director of pupil services, also reported to the board on the high school "Chill Project" during the same presentation segment.
The board did not record any formal dissent to the superintendent's statement in the minutes; the meeting proceeded to a series of contract and program approvals and adjourned at 9:05 p.m.
