A member of Conyers’ medical community raised safety and nuisance concerns about the Arbors at Conyers apartment complex during the citizen‑comment portion of the council meeting.
Veronica Garrett, M.D., said the complex at 1415 Millstead Road was presented as senior housing but now accommodates residents of many ages; she reported incidents including loud noise, people entering adjacent property on foot paths, pervasive odors of marijuana, people sleeping on benches, and what she described as suspected drug exchanges occurring in the parking area. Dr. Garrett said the situation has created a security problem for her staff and patients at a female‑staffed gynecology facility and that she had reported the problems to city staff and code enforcement (she named Cheryl Young and code enforcement officer Daryl Matthews as contacts).
Dr. Garrett said she was told police could escort staff to vehicles but asked whether that is the ongoing plan and what additional action the city would take. Council did not take immediate substantive action at the meeting; staff said they would follow up with the commenter after the meeting using the contact information provided, consistent with the public‑comment rules the clerk described earlier.
