Katy council approves multiple permits and resolutions, calls May election

The City of Katy council on June 12 approved a series of ordinances and resolutions by voice vote and carried a consent agenda, wrapping most formal business in a single meeting.
Among the actions, the council amended the City of Katy zoning ordinance to allow a religious institution at 5371 East 5th Street for Redeemed Christian Church of God, the King’s Palace, and separately granted a special-use permit to allow a religious institution at 5819 10th Street for Connect Church Global. Both items were recommended by the City Planning and Zoning Commission and drew minimal public testimony; a staff member noted the convenience store on the 5th Street site has a certificate of occupancy for a convenience-store use and that any on-site cooking would be investigated through the permits department.
The council approved the consent agenda and a resolution authorizing the mayor to sign a contract from McKenna Contracting Inc. to overlay pickleball lines onto tennis courts at Katy City Park, authorizing the mayor to sign a nonbinding memorandum of understanding (quote no. 1005) with Ironclad Wellness LLC to provide mental-health services to Katy Fire Department personnel, and a resolution nominating Dennis Gordon to serve as director for West Harris County Regional Water Authority, precinct 9. The council also adopted an ordinance calling a May 2026 election for one at-large council member and councilmembers from Ward A and Ward B.
All motions passed by voice vote with no individual roll-call tallies recorded on the public record; where a recorded tally is not included in the minutes, the meeting transcript indicates each motion carried after the mayor called for “ayes” and “nays.”
The meeting concluded with mayor and councilmember reports about community events, local recognitions and upcoming rodeo and FFA activities, and then adjourned at 7:07 p.m.
