The Tarrant City Council on Feb. 2 approved a series of routine and contested measures, including the disposition of commercial property, adoption of a public-safety ordinance and multiple board appointments.
Mayor Tracie B. Threadford called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. and the council quickly approved the meeting agenda and minutes for Jan. 5 and Feb. 2, 2026. Council action that evening included the conveyance of properties at 2518 and 2538 Commerce Way to Montgomery Transport, LLC (MKM Leasing, LLC or assigns) under an existing commercial lease, and adoption of Ordinance 1171, a citywide ban on engine compression brakes.
Why it matters: The property conveyance finalizes a lease-based commercial disposition affecting industrial parcels along Commerce Way; the compression-brake ordinance addresses noise and safety concerns in residential and business districts.
Councilor John T. “Tommy” Bryant introduced Resolution No. 9380 to authorize the Commerce Way conveyance; the motion passed with five yes votes and one abstention from Councilor Charles Johnson. Bryant also read Ordinance 1171 on its second reading; the council adopted the ordinance unanimously.
The council approved multiple appointments and reappointments. Resolution No. 9385 reappointed Debbie Hall to the Tarrant City Board of Education (five yes, one abstain). Resolution No. 9386 reappointed members to the Tarrant Beautification Board (five yes, one abstain). Resolution No. 9387 was amended to change the term language and then approved unanimously to appoint Deborah Crayton to the Tarrant Housing Board.
The council also reviewed and approved vouchers and expenses for the week ending Feb. 17, 2026 by unanimous vote.
Public comment that night included Mr. Clement urging brush and limb pickup, suggesting a benevolence fund to lower electric bills for elderly residents and recommending hiring retired officers to address police staffing shortages. Ms. Dill raised a damaged mailbox; Public Works and police reported they would complete repair within two days.
What’s next: New business included introduction of Ordinance No. 1172 (first reading), proposing an amendment to procedural rules for officers’ reports; no final action was taken on that ordinance. Two resolutions related to livestreaming and financial-transparency administration were tabled for further administrative clarification (see separate coverage).
