The National City Community and Police Relations Commission voted on Feb. 19 to place two commission-item requests on the May 21 agenda for further consideration.
Commissioner Zendulka asked the commission to place on the May agenda a proposal to establish a bylaws and operating-procedures subcommittee to review and update the commission’s bylaws, remove duplication with ordinances and streamline internal processes. Zendulka said the subcommittee would “update it, just, get rid of duplication between bylaws, ordinances, review our processes,” and would return recommendations for the full commission to consider.
Zendulka also asked the commission to add a separate May agenda item to discuss recommending an amendment to the police department policy manual addressing how the public files complaints with the department. Chair (speaker S1) clarified that placing the item on the agenda is a step to allow discussion and does not itself adopt any policy change.
The clerk called the votes to place both items on the May agenda; commissioners present recorded their votes in favor and the items were added to the May 21 meeting for full consideration.
The commission did not take final action on either subject on Feb. 19; both items were scheduled for discussion and possible action at the May 21 meeting.
