Florence City Council adopts 2025-26 budget, approves $20,995 wastewater contract

The Florence City Council on Sept. 30, 2025, adopted Ordinance 2025-21, approving the city's fiscal year 2025-26 budget and appropriations, and unanimously approved a $20,995 contract with Westar to replace gate valves on the bottom of a wastewater digester.
Mayor Ben Daniel called the special meeting to order at 6:00 p.m., and Council Member Mike Harrell provided the invocation. Mayor Pro Tem Mary Condon moved to approve minutes from the Sept. 9 and Sept. 24, 2025 meetings; Debra Bivens seconded and the motion carried with no opposition. Forrest Hyde was recorded as absent for that vote.
During deliberation, Mary Condon moved the second reading and adoption of ORDINANCE 2025-21, "making appropriations for the support of the City of Florence for the fiscal year beginning October 1, 2025 and ending September 30, 2026," and adopting the annual budget; Mary Jane Swope seconded. The council voted with no opposition and the ordinance was approved.
Council also voted to accept Westar's bid of $20,995.00 to replace gate valves at the bottom of the city's wastewater digester. Mary Condon made the motion; Mary Jane Swope seconded and the motion carried with no opposition.
Mayor Daniel adjourned the meeting at 6:07 p.m. The minutes were later certified and signed Oct. 14, 2025, by Mayor Ben Daniel and City Secretary Angelica Lombardi.
