Mayor highlights Tree Fest, grants and SR 141 coordination with WSDOT

Mayor Marla Keethler outlined recent city activities on April 1, from a well-attended Tree Fest to ongoing grant work for local trails and transportation improvements. She noted White Salmon is marking its ninth year as a Tree City, coinciding with the national program’s 50th anniversary, and thanked the Tree Board and volunteers for their efforts.
Keethler said the city submitted a CDS application to Senator Patty Murray’s office and is preparing a Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) grant application for the next phase of Bluff Trail improvements. Public Works Operations Manager Jason Kinley recently presented to the Transportation Improvement Board about the State Route 141 project as the city explores funding for Complete Streets improvements such as sidewalks, lighting and pedestrian enhancements.
On parking, Keethler referenced earlier consideration of back-in angled parking as one possible configuration, but clarified the remark was an April Fools’ joke and said: “no changes to parking configuration are currently proposed” while the project remains under coordination with WSDOT.
The mayor also announced an annual wildfire open house planned for May 4 that will use a new open-house format to allow direct engagement with multiple agencies.
