Summary
The commission voted to hold a Pride-focused night-market in partnership with Off The Grid on Thursday, Oct. 8, citing calendar fit and the operator's built-in audience and fundraising model. Staff will coordinate logistics and promotion with the vendor and city channels.
The Pleasant Hill Diversity Commission voted April 21 to host a Pride-focused night-market in partnership with Off The Grid on Thursday, Oct. 8.
Commission members discussed two date options offered by the food-truck operator—Thursday, July 16, or Thursday, Oct. 8—and expressed concern about proximity to July Fourth events and other summer conflicts. "I was leaning more towards the Thursday, October 8 date," a commissioner said, noting the date's closeness to National Coming Out Day could increase community relevance.
Commissioners described Off The Grid as having a built-in audience and a model that benefits nonprofits: $1 from every purchase at a truck can be directed to a partner organization. The commission also discussed opportunities to invite pride-focused organizations, incorporate family-friendly programming and explore fundraising with a local LGBTQ+ nonprofit.
A motion to hold the event on Oct. 8 was made and seconded and carried without recorded abstentions. Commissioners tasked staff and volunteer leads to coordinate a flyer, confirm vendor commitments and finalize the event's inclusion in the city calendar. The commission agreed to use the night-market platform to offer booths to community organizations and to consider performers and music that draw additional attendees.
Next steps include Off The Grid confirming the date and the commission's promotions team finalizing a flyer and social-media plan ahead of market openings in May.
