Council tables polling-location item; approves election services contract and procedures for Nov. 4 election
Summary
City officials tabled a decision on which polling locations will close after Polk County officials failed to agree on four sites; council approved a joint election-services contract and a resolution establishing election procedures and postponed the Notice of General Election until Sept. 16.
City Secretary/Assistant City Manager Ellie Monteaux told the council that Polk County deputies had discussed reducing the number of polling locations from 12 to 8 but had not reached agreement on which four sites to close. The Polk County Commissioners Court will decide the selection at a special meeting on Sept. 15, 2025.
Because selection of the closed polling locations remained unsettled, Monteaux requested that the council postpone the city's Amended Order of Election item to allow Polk County to make the decision. Alderman Alan Cook moved to table the item; Alderman Bobby Jackson seconded and the council voted to table the matter and address it at the special called council meeting on Sept. 16, 2025.
The council separately approved the Joint Contract for Election Services for the Nov. 4, 2025 City of Livingston General Election and adopted a resolution establishing election procedures for that election (both motions approved unanimously). The agenda item to publish the Notice of General Election was also postponed to the Sept. 16 meeting to allow finalization of the polling locations.
