Florence council approves rezoning ordinance, vehicle repairs and other routine items

The Florence City Council at its Oct. 14, 2025 meeting approved the second reading of Ordinance 2025-20 to amend the city's comprehensive plan and rezone WCAD Parcel R367749 (102 Adams Ave.) from Single‑Family Residential (SF‑1) to Mixed Use (MU). Mary Condon moved the ordinance and Mary Jane Swope seconded; the motion carried with no opposition. The ordinance includes a penalty clause not to exceed $2,000 or the highest penalty amount allowed by law and provides for publication of its caption.
Council also approved repair work for police vehicle Unit 804, authorizing Christian Brothers Automotive to perform repairs for $7,632.15 on a motion by Mary Condon, seconded by Mary Jane Swope; there were no opposing votes. After a brief recess to inspect the vehicle outside the meeting room, the council approved selling a 2006 BMW X5 (a vehicle awarded to the Florence Police Department through civil forfeiture) via an online auction with an opening bid set at $500; Mary Condon made the motion and Mike Harrell seconded.
The council approved a quote from Ron Perrin for cleaning and inspection of in‑service potable water storage tanks on a motion by Mary Jane Swope, seconded by Debra Bivens; none opposed. Several other agenda items were tabled for additional information (including requests for details from Dan Hejil and for RSVP counts for a separate item) and were moved to the next regular meeting for follow‑up.
On a motion by Mary Jane Swope, seconded by Debra Bivens, the council adopted Resolution 2025‑22 naming the Williamson County Sun as the city's official newspaper of record for required legal publications. The meeting adjourned at 8:03 p.m.; the next regular meeting is scheduled for Nov. 3, 2025 at 6:00 p.m.
