Chase County rejects motor grader bids and adopts One‑and‑Six‑Year Road Plan (Resolution 2026‑5)

At 8:30 a.m. on March 24 the Chase County Commissioners opened four bids for a replacement motor grader. Murphy Tractor & Equipment submitted two John Deere bids that included a $55,000 trade allowance (JD 770P final $307,000; JD 772P final $340,000). NMC (CAT) presented bids with a $33,400 trade allowance (CAT 150 final $349,000; CAT 150 AWD final $392,200); the CAT bids were presented with and without trade‑in consideration while the JD bids were offered only with a trade‑in.
After Murphy and NMC representatives were present for the reconvened session, Commissioner Jacci Brown moved to reject all bids because the JD offers did not include pricing without a trade. Commissioner Kurt Bernhardt seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous (Muehlenkamp — yes; Brown — yes; Bernhardt — yes). The board said it will consider purchasing from State Bid at a later date.
Following a public hearing opened at 9:00 a.m., during which Highway Superintendent Toney Krajewski and Assistant Highway Superintendent Dick DeWester presented the proposed One‑and‑Six‑Year Road Plan and no members of the public spoke, Chairman Kurt Bernhardt moved to approve Resolution 2026‑5 adopting the plan. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Jacci Brown and carried unanimously.
Both actions were recorded by the clerk. The road plan copy is available for inspection in the county clerk’s office.
