Monterey Park honors two residents for life-saving rescue in Alhambra fire

Monterey Park — The City Council and Fire Department presented commendations to two Monterey Park residents, Justin and Jason Ramirez, who entered a burning house in Alhambra on Dec. 19 and rescued a trapped elderly woman.
Fire Chief Jason Hing said the pair arrived before fire units, entered the structure in dangerous conditions and rescued the woman, actions he described as "extraordinary heroism." One of the young men told the council they responded after a PulsePoint alert, broke down a wall and pulled the woman from an area two feet from flames and thick smoke.
Council thanked the two residents and presented certificates of recognition.
No formal action beyond the commendation was required; staff will present certificates to the honorees at the front of the chamber.
