Center for Energy Education to host Energy Saver NC enrollment events in Martin County

Shana Brown, Administrative Director for the Center for Energy Education, said the program became available to Martin County in December 2025 through the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality partnership and that staff have helped hundreds of residents in neighboring counties complete applications. "Qualified residents may receive up to $16,000 through the HOMES Program and up to $14,000 through the HEAR Program," Brown said, and staff outlined paperwork applicants should bring: the last 12 months of electric bills, gas bills if applicable, a valid email address and income documentation for all working household members.
The center announced an on‑site application day scheduled for Wednesday, March 4, 2026, split between NC Telecenter (9 a.m.–noon) and Venue 603 (1 p.m.–4 p.m.) to accommodate people with limited transportation and internet access. The program also encouraged local contractors to become certified through NC DEQ so work and funds can stay local.
Commissioner Ronnie Smith noted that the income thresholds would make many residents, especially seniors, eligible and asked that program information be broadly circulated. The board thanked the presenters and asked staff to share event details with county communications channels.
Next steps: Center for Energy Education will hold the March 4 events and assist applicants; county staff will distribute event information to residents and contractors.
