Jay County approves sheriff’s radio room separation and a $5,278 HVAC purchase

Newton said his department has budgeted funds to cover the additional cost. The commissioners approved charging the required work to the sheriff’s budget on a motion by Commissioner Chad Aker, seconded by Commissioner Doug Horn; the motion passed unanimously.
Newton also presented three quotes for a mini-split air-conditioning unit requested at a prior meeting: Dave’s Heating and Cooling for $5,278; Laux Plumbing for $8,192.90; and an older quote from Havel for $16,887. After consulting with a Havel technician, Newton recommended purchasing from the lowest bidder. Commissioners approved purchase from Dave’s Heating and Cooling for $5,278 (motion by Aker, second Horn, unanimous).
During the same item, commissioners asked Comcast representative Jason Thomas to meet with Auditor Emily Franks to review agency accounts and to investigate a buried cable causing damage to the sheriff’s department exterior. Thomas agreed to follow up with the auditor.
The actions authorize the sheriff’s office to proceed with the separation work and the HVAC purchase using funds indicated by the sheriff’s budget; no additional county appropriation was requested at the meeting.
