La Mirada honors Biola University Innovation Camp leaders, highlights student entrepreneurship

The La Mirada City Council recognized Biola University27s Innovation Camp at its Jan. 27 meeting, presenting certificates of appreciation and La Mirada Theatre tickets to program partners.
City staff described the camp as a week-long, immersive program to introduce high school students from La Mirada High School, Norwalk High School and John Glenn High School to entrepreneurship and design thinking, including mentorship, campus tours and prototype development. Staff highlighted that students created at least three prototypes during the week, including AI-based and physical prototypes, and presented final ideas to community leaders and parents.
Dr. Sylvia Ma, Biola27s director of innovation, recounted student stories of idea development, rapid prototyping and early alumni who returned as teaching assistants. Staff and councilmembers praised the partnership between Biola, the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District and the city and encouraged continuing and expanding the program.
The council presented certificates to the named program leaders and two tickets each to the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts.
