Board to forward DOT maintenance agreement for Southbridge Interchange to council

The De Pere Board of Public Works on Jan. 12 reviewed a DOT municipal maintenance agreement for the new Southbridge Interchange and voted to forward the agreement to the City Council for approval.
Scott summarized the agreement, saying it clarifies responsibility for the interchange features: the city generally will handle the new approach roads and the colored concrete and landscaping for roundabouts that connect into the city network, while the DOT retains other elements. Board members asked how often colored‑stain maintenance would be required and whether the state would enforce maintenance if the city did not act. Scott said comparable stained bridges in town have lasted 15–25 years with minimal work and that if the city failed to comply the state could step in and the city would be charged to remedy the work.
Following discussion, staff recommended forwarding the agreement to the council; the board approved the recommendation by voice vote.
The board did not adopt the agreement itself at this meeting; the measure will go to the City Council for final action.
