Resident urges inclusion in new elementary-school zoning as redistricting looms

Chris Grubb, who identified himself as an educator and parent and a Foxfield resident, told the school board Aug. 12 that a small subsection of his neighborhood near Otterdale and Woolridge should be included in the attendance zone for the new elementary school under planning. Grubb said his daughter currently is zoned to Woolridge Elementary while neighbors across the street are zoned to Moseley Elementary, and he argued that including his section with the new school would provide logistical continuity and simpler bus and drop-off patterns.
"I'm just here to bring attention to our small section and request that we be included and not have to fight to be included in plans going forward for this new elementary school," Grubb said in his public comment. He also noted nearby planned residential development (Thacker's View: 168 single-family homes and 88 townhomes) that will add student demand.
Superintendent Dr. Murray later confirmed in his report that the district will discuss redistricting in the fall as part of planning to balance enrollment and reduce portable-classroom use: "we will be talking about redistricting, in a few locations" this fall, he told the board. Board members also acknowledged the Foxfield concern during the announcements and asked that the neighborhood's input be considered as the district finalizes plans for new facilities and traffic patterns.
