Summary
The board approved submission of six transportation grant applications to the Atlanta Regional Commission for FY2027–28 funding and agreed to sponsor a Peachtree City project contingent on final proposals.
Fayette County staff will submit six applications to the Atlanta Regional Commission’s 2026 Transportation Improvement Program solicitation after the Board approved the list and prioritized the proposed projects.
Transportation Engineer Paola Kimball presented staff’s recommendation to seek ARC assistance on a mix of capital and planning projects with an 80/20 funding split if selected for FY 2027–28. Projects on the recommended list include a realignment of SR 279 and Corinth Road (top priority), an Eastin Road roundabout, Kenwood Road and Sandy Creek Road path projects, a SR 54 & Coweta-Fayette connectivity study, and the Redwine Road Path Gap Closure scoping study. Staff clarified a seventh project shown in backup material (Hood Road) had been included in error; the recommendation was for six applications.
Vice Chairman Edward Gibbons and other commissioners underscored the importance of timing and prioritization, noting the need to account for traffic changes from the SR 54/SR 74 project before proceeding with related studies.
The board also agreed to act as the project sponsor for a grade-separated crossing project proposed by Peachtree City for ARC submission, contingent on Peachtree City’s finalized project selection and cost proposal, because Peachtree City’s LAP certification is not expected to be complete before the ARC deadline.
What’s next: Staff will submit the six ARC applications and act as sponsor for the contingent Peachtree City application; grant selection and federal/state funding decisions will determine which projects advance.
