Fayette County accepts $100,000 Georgia Power donation for Kenwood Park enhancements

Parks and Recreation Director Anita Godbee said the donation would be split, with $50,000 designated for refurbishing existing park elements — such as picnic tables, volleyball net posts and erosion control — and $50,000 set aside for new amenities that could include swing sets, workout stations, a pump track and additional parking. Godbee asked the board to approve the county’s acceptance and a plan to gather community input, including surveys, to inform specific improvements.
Commissioner Charles D. Rousseau moved to accept the donation and direct community engagement on park priorities; Vice Chairman Edward Gibbons seconded. County Administrator Steve Rapson confirmed the county’s donation policy allows staff-level acceptance for gifts under $200,000 with board ratification. The motion passed 5-0.
Next steps: Staff will gather community feedback on preferred enhancements and return implementation details and any required contracts or procurement steps to the board.
