Summary
At a public hearing on initial bargaining proposals from the Garden Grove Educators Association, a GGEA representative presented priority articles; public commenter Nicholas Dibbs urged the district to record a teen mental health webinar and asked that future contracts explicitly include all teachers and smaller class sizes.
The board held a public hearing on the Garden Grove Educators Association’s (GGEA) initial contract proposals for the 2026–27 school year. A union representative outlined articles the association seeks to open, including hours of employment, safety, evaluations, class size, transfer procedures and leaves.
“We'd like to open article 4, hours of employment, article 6, safety, article 7, evaluation procedures, article 9, class size, article 10, transfer procedures, and article 11, leaves,” the GGEA representative said during the presentation.
During the public hearing, community member Nicholas Dibbs urged the district to record and post a teen mental health webinar run in partnership with Solomon Tritaw and the district, and to update the district’s mental health resolution with recommended points from the webinar. “I hope Dr. Maffei and your staff can record that webinar,” Dibbs said. He also asked that contract language be written to include all teachers in the district (for example, ROP and CTE instructors) and urged reductions in class sizes in early grades.
Board members noted the proposal presentation and the public comment were entered into the public record. The hearing closed after the single submitted speaker addressed the board. No formal bargaining actions or votes on contract terms occurred at the meeting; the presentation represents the union's opening positions for future negotiations.
