Planner reports Tree City USA approval, Arbor Day proclamation and DOER guidance on consolidated permits

Planning staff provided a brief planner’s report near the end of the March 30 meeting. Corinna said the town achieved Tree City USA approval and that a proclamation for Arbor Day would be forwarded to the select board for an upcoming meeting.
Corinna also distributed a letter from the conservation agent that had been sent to the select board regarding consolidated permits under Department of Energy Resources (DOER) rules for small clean-energy projects, such as battery energy storage systems. She said the town could begin accepting consolidated permits on July 1 under the new process, but that the regional DOER coordinator recommended waiting until Oct. 1 to accept applications that fall under the consolidated-permit rules; in the meantime applicants may apply under the town’s standard code requirements.
Corinna reminded the board of upcoming dates: the annual town meeting on April 11 and the annual town election on May 12, and noted the planning board’s pre-town-meeting session to finalize reports.
