Planning Board continues hearing on zoning change to require special permits for data centers

The Town of Southborough Planning Board opened a public hearing on March 30 to consider amending Town Code section 174-9 to add subsection K, making data centers a use that requires a special permit from the planning board. Corinna, the planning staff member, read the legal notice and posting dates and said copies of the proposed zoning amendment were available at the planning office and on the board’s agenda center.
Board members discussed how the change fits into previously posted warrant articles and whether having the use under the special-permit section would streamline site-plan review. Chair said town counsel recommended noticing this specific section because it had not been noticed since 2009. "Amend special permit 174Dash9 to add section k data centers," the Chair said when introducing the item.
With public attendance limited that night, Miss DeMaria moved to continue the hearing to April 11 at 9:00 a.m.; the motion was seconded and approved by roll call. The board recorded affirmative votes for Latrell, Demiria, Rasher and Domiak.
The continuation gives staff time to post the revised language and for members to collect any further public input before the board or town meeting considers the amendment.
