Cedar Fort planning commission recommends GSBS general plan updates, approves municipal code amendments

The Cedar Fort Planning Commission voted March 5 to recommend updates to the town’s General Plan and to approve a set of municipal code amendments.

The commission reviewed the GSBS final draft of the General Plan, noting an updated table of contents; mapped annexation areas and annexation policy language clarifying that planning does not guarantee annexation; new growth-strategy guidance questions; updates to the water-resources section that document Cedar Fort’s water-rights history, priority dates and coordination with the Cedar Fort Irrigation Company; and planning considerations such as low-speed connected neighborhood streets, trail and pedestrian connectivity, open-space and trailhead support, and landscape design to reinforce Cedar Fort character. Commissioners also discussed expanded implementation metrics and a future spreadsheet linking grant resources by agency (MAG, state, federal, private/nonprofit) to aid implementation.

Chair Kent Withers moved to approve the GSBS final draft pending adequate addressing of comments generated by planning and discussion at the March 16 meeting; Commissioner Lynnette Groff seconded the motion. The motion passed on a recorded vote of the commission.

Commissioners also considered a separate set of amendments to definitions and other sections of the Cedar Fort Municipal Code as previously presented. Chair Withers moved and Commissioner Groff seconded a motion to approve the code amendments "as presented by Lynette of the meeting prior." The motion passed on a unanimous recorded vote.

Next steps: the Planning Commission’s recommendation on the General Plan will be forwarded to the Town Council for review; staff and commissioners identified the need for one final planning-commission review to address outstanding comments before formal action by the council.
