At its Oct. 7 meeting the City of Southfield council approved several routine and time-sensitive actions.
Consent: The council approved an agreement with the Oakland County Road Commission for winter road maintenance for the 2024–25 season and authorized submission of a Transportation Alternatives Program (TAB) grant application to fund improvements along the south side of 9 Mile Road between the M-10 service drive and Greenfield Road. The motions were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Ordinances: The council enacted two zoning ordinances by voice vote. Ordinance 1796 rezoned property at 19421 10 Mile from R-2 single-family to OS (office/service). Ordinance 1797 rezoned 25100 North Western Highway from B-3 General Business to RC Regional Center. Both were moved and adopted without recorded roll-call tallies at the meeting.
Elections: The clerk requested a temporary relocation of Precincts 4 and 5 from Vandenberg Elementary to the Southfield Pavilion for the Nov. 5 election because the school will be unavailable. The city attorney explained Michigan election-law notice requirements for temporary changes and the clerk said the city will post signs and notify affected voters; council approved the temporary move by voice vote. The clerk reminded residents that early voting runs Oct. 26–Nov. 3 and urged voters using absentee ballots to return them promptly.
Next steps: For the precinct move staff will post required signage at the former polling places, update official notices and add information to the city's website; the clerk and election commission will handle further logistics.
