Charles Coffey was confirmed as chairman of the Unified Government of Cusseta‑Chattahoochee County at the board’s regular meeting on Jan. 7, 2025, after a motion to appoint another commissioner failed for lack of a second. Commissioner Gerald Douglas moved to appoint Coffey and Commissioner Jason Frost seconded; Commissioner Damon Hoyte recorded the lone dissent. The board then appointed Timothy Biddle as vice chairman by unanimous vote.
The commission unanimously approved the Dec. 3 and Dec. 23, 2024 regular‑meeting and executive‑session minutes as presented.
The board also adopted a proclamation honoring James Edward “Jimmy” Lawrence, who served on the Board of Assessors (March 2006–Dec. 2008) and as a county commissioner from Jan. 1, 2009–Dec. 31, 2012 and again from Jan. 1, 2013–Dec. 31, 2019; the proclamation noted his passing on Dec. 5, 2024.
In related business the commission accepted the Library Board’s nomination and appointed Linda Engelbert to a term running through Dec. 31, 2027.
The meeting opened at 9:00 a.m. with Vice‑Chair Timothy Biddle noted absent; the board entered executive session later in the meeting to discuss legal matters and reconvened before adjourning at 10:24 a.m.
